Cookie policy
Last updated
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This page lists the ones AppSecNews uses, along with the few things we keep in your browser's local storage. Our own statistics use no cookies at all; see the privacy policy.
Strictly necessary
These make the site work and keep it secure. They do not track you, and the law does not require consent for them.
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| laravel_session | Keeps your session: forms, messages after you submit them, and your sign in if you have an account. | 2 hours of inactivity |
| XSRF-TOKEN | Protects forms against cross site request forgery. | 2 hours |
| remember_web_… | Keeps you signed in, only if you tick "remember me" when signing in to a vendor account. | Until you log out, at most 400 days |
| ARRAffinity, ARRAffinitySameSite | Set by our hosting platform (Microsoft Azure) to route your requests to the same server. | Your browsing session |
Preferences in your browser
These stay in your browser's local storage and are never sent to us.
| Name | Purpose |
|---|---|
| scheme | Your choice of light or dark theme. |
| results-view | Whether you prefer lists or cards for search results. |
| consent-v2 | Your answer to the cookie banner, so we do not ask on every page. |
Advertising and measurement (Google)
Public pages may show Google ads, and we use Google's tags to measure which pages lead to a demo request. Where consent is required, these load only after you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. If you reject, or have not answered, no Google script is loaded. Once you accept, Google may set its own cookies (for example _ga, _gcl_au and the advertising cookies listed in Google's policies) to deliver, personalise and measure ads. Google explains how it uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Other services
Some forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots, and signing in with Google or LinkedIn, or paying through Stripe, takes you to those services, which apply their own cookie policies on their own pages.
Changing your choice
You can change your answer to the cookie banner at any time. Choosing again shows the banner on the next page you open.
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will stop forms and sign in from working.
