Terms of use
Last updated
These terms apply to your use of AppSecNews (https://appsecnews.com), run by AppSecNews ("we", "us"), including its public API, its MCP server and the vendor portal. By using the site you agree to them. If you use it on behalf of a company, you agree for that company. The privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
What the site is
AppSecNews publishes independent research on application security tools: profiles, comparisons, Top 10 lists, guides and news. It is information to help you choose, not professional, legal or security advice, and not a recommendation for your particular situation. Products change, and despite our editorial process a page can be out of date or wrong. Check what matters to you with the vendor and in your own evaluation before you rely on it, and tell us when something is wrong.
Our editorial standards are set out in the editorial policy. Coverage, rankings and the content of profiles are never for sale. Sponsored placements are labelled as such.
Using the site
You may use the site for your own research and your work. You must not:
- break the law or anyone's rights through the site;
- try to get into accounts, systems or data that are not yours, or test the site's security without our permission (we welcome reports through the security contact);
- overload the site, get around rate limits, or copy it in bulk by automated means outside the public API and MCP server;
- send spam, malware or misleading content through any form;
- pretend to be someone else, or to act for a company you do not represent.
Our content
The text, data, design and code of the site belong to us or our licensors. You may quote short extracts with a credit to AppSecNews and a link to the page. You may use the public API and MCP server to show our data in your own tools and answers, provided you keep the attribution and link each item returns, respect the rate limits, and do not present our content as your own or rebuild the site from it. Product names, logos and trademarks belong to their owners; their appearance here does not mean the owner endorses us or that we endorse them.
What you send us
When you send a correction, an endorsement, a tool submission or listing content, you confirm that it is accurate, that you have the right to share it, and, for an endorsement, that it is your own honest opinion and that no vendor paid or rewarded you for it. You allow us to edit, publish and keep it as part of the site, without payment. We moderate what is published and may decline or remove anything at our discretion.
Vendor accounts
- You must give accurate details, confirm your email address, and only act for a company you are authorised to represent. Keep your sign in details and two factor device safe; you are responsible for what happens under your account and your team's accounts.
- Claiming a listing lets you propose changes and receive demo requests. It does not give you control of the profile: every change is reviewed by our editors against the editorial policy, and the limitations section stays.
- Demo requests and document requests contain personal information that readers send to you. Use it only to respond to that request, handle it lawfully and securely, and do not sell or pass it on.
- Paid packages are billed through Stripe. The price, billing period, renewal and cancellation terms are shown before you buy and form part of these terms. Paid features depend on your account being in good standing.
- We may suspend or close a vendor account that breaks these terms, for example for false claims, misuse of buyer details or attempts to influence coverage through payment.
Links, ads and other services
The site links to vendor websites and other services, and may show labelled advertising. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices. Signing in with Google or LinkedIn, and paying through Stripe, are subject to those services' own terms.
No warranty
We work hard to keep the site accurate and available, but we provide it as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it is complete, correct, current, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data or business opportunity, arising from your use of the site or your reliance on its content. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Suspension and ending
We may change, suspend or stop any part of the site, and may restrict access for anyone who breaks these terms. You can stop using the site at any time, and close a vendor account by contacting us. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as those on content, liability and governing law, continue after your use ends.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version, and we will give vendor account holders reasonable notice by email of changes that materially affect them. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
